About the Artist - Janet Hess
The Artist: Janet Hess My love of art and the desire to be a better artist is what started my relationship with the Goddess. I planned to draw about a dozen women with birds from different cultures for practice.

For years I have enjoyed the study of religion and history. My practice drawings brought me to the study of mythology as well. Doing the Goddess art has brought it all together.

To me the feminine divine is such a deep mystery because so many of the early cultures who worshipped her did not record their beliefs. She is hard to find at times.

I call my Goddesses Lady-Birds ecause I add a bird to each. I originally jumped from one culture to another. Then I started yo do several from one culture giving me the time to study the people and their beliefs more deeply.

I’ve learned to see the Goddess as a part of all women and creating images of her in her many forms has brought me both great pleasure and better knowledge of the peoples of my world.

I want my Goddess art to celebrate women. And make me a better artist.
